Dearest friends,
Why is Holy Rest, the Sabbath, so important?
It is often said that Priests, when they preach, do so primarily to themselves. This may well be an example of me writing an article I need to read!
We have a packed summer planned, there is something happening every week and we’re all working super hard to bring new people to Jesus Christ at both churches.
As we come to the summer school holidays it’s a good time to reflect on our workloads and consider a time of rest and relaxation.
This isn’t being lazy, it isn’t running away – it is vital if we are to be in the best shape possible to welcome the people of Devon and further afield as they discover us through our mission and evangelism work.
What good will we be if, when children come to church we are so worn down and grumpy that the welcome they receive is anything less than loving and enthusiastic?
What good will we be if, when people come to our midweek masses and tea & coffee, they are faced with sour and tired disciples?
God gave us the sabbath – our day of rest – as a model of His being, of His love.
To love Him, is to accept His rest… to be like the disciple that Jesus loved and to recline our heads in His lap.
Thank you for all you have done this year, for all you continue to do, but remember to rest over the summer as much as you can so that you are better placed to be loving and welcoming.

Team Evensong
This Sunday we have the Team Evensong at Highweek (TQ12 1QD). Our very own Graham is leading the service so it would be wonderful if we could turn out to support him. 5:30pm
Summer Fete at St. Luke’s
I need a few volunteers to help organise our simplified summer get together on the 16th August. Please be in touch with Fr. Matthew.
Service Times
I am considering moving the service times to 9am and 11:15am to enable me to stay at St. John’s for a short time each week, but to also arrive at St. Luke’s with more than just five minutes to spare. I would like to hear your thoughts before we discuss it at our next PCC meetings. Please drop me an email or message or tell me during the week.
Rosary Group
The Rosary Group will be meeting at St. Luke’s in the Lady Chapel at 10:30am on the 12th July. It’s a wonderful opportunity to stop, reflect, and place yourself in God’s care.
