News for 10th August and the Week Ahead

Dearest friends,

We have a few big pilgrimage events this summer. Sadly they’ve come very close together and are normally more spread out.

The first is the Glastonbury Pilgrimage on the 6th September. We’ll be heading there as a parish and aim to arrive in Glastonbury for 11am. We need to register / pay £11 per person which covers the Abbey admission fee. You can do this online or in person at either of the churches this / the coming Sundays.

I have looked at a bus, but it’s simply too expensive. So, if you’re able to offer a lift to people please make yourself known. I can take two in my car – please ask each other at coffee on Sunday or contact me directly and I’ll match people up.

The other pilgrimage is the Exeter Diocese Pilgrimage to Our Lady of Walsingham.

This year it’s September 8th to 12th and is being led by Fr. David Way along with other Priests from the diocese (including me!)

The total cost is just £399 including transport, but if that it too much there are also some grants available to help.

If you’d like to go this year – and I encourage you to come along (particularly if you’ve never been before) please take a look at the booking form on the website (or in church from this Sunday) and either contact myself or Fr. David directly on walsinghaminexeter@gmail.com or call him on 01752 240119 and he can arrange payment and book you in.

I know a number of you are already booked into Walsingham and I’m looking forward to being with you.

Pilgrimage is a very special thing, but if you can’t come along in person then take your own spiritual pilgrimage at home. If you’d like guidance on how to do that I’m very happy to help.

Fr. Matthew

Joint BBQ (THIS SUNDAY!)
It’s that time of year when we invite you all to the vicarage garden for a little BBQ and picnic. We’d love to welcome you to our home and to join us for a hot dog & burger and some special treats. Please bring a chair, and if you’d like more than just a burger or hot dog please bring that as well! Experts will be on hand do the cooking…

Service Times
From Sunday 7th September service times will move to 9am and St. John’s and 11:15am at St. Luke’s. I continue to work on a solution that would allow both churches to return to a 10am mass.Thank you for your support in making this work.

St. Luke’s Family Fun Day
We had a great planning meeting last week and will be inviting families to our great big picnic and fun day on the 16th August. Posters and leaflets will be available very soon from the back of St. Luke’s – please take them and hand them out to the families you know. The fun day will run from 2pm-5pm and if you could turn up about an hour before hand, or stay for a short time afterwards we’d really appreciate any help you could offer setting up and taking down. It’s a very simple affair this year, just a few fun stalls, an obstacle course, face painting, hook a duck, a coconut shy, splat the rat, and the stocks (thanks Mick!) We’ll have a BBQ and sell ice creams. A great opportunity to invite friends to church for a fabulous fun day out!
