News for the 29th June and the Week Ahead

Dearest friends,

The T.H.A.T foodbank in Buckland is really showing us how to GO AND ANNOUNCE THE GOSPEL in our community.

However I ask ARE YOU?

I know, as I’m sure many of us do, firsthand how financial difficulties can affect our ability to feed our families. Thus meaning we have had to rely on food banks though some of the most difficult of times.

Harvest is a wonderful time of giving and giving thanks for all we have and we are encouraged to share generously with those less fortunate.

This is some thing we are very good at, however with life as it is at the moment I am asking that we look agin at how we donate through church to our local food bank. If each of us could donate just 1 item per week, it would make such a huge difference to those in our community that the foodbank is essential to then in their time of need.

Proberbs 19.17 reminds us. Whoever is kind to the poor lend them to the lord, and he will reward them for what they have done. Whilst in John 2.16 We are warned against inactivity.   If one of you says to them Go in peace keep warm and well fed but does nothing about their physical needs what good is it.

We give not out of guilt, but out of grace, we give because we have been given much. We give because our faith is NOT passive but  active compassionate and bold.

Let us open our pantries and our hearts. Lets not give what is easy but what is needed. In doing so we become the hands and feet of Jesus in a world that so desperately needs his touch.

Notices

Joint Mass, 29th June, 10am
It’s a 5 week month which means one thing – a joint mass at 10am!

After the mass there’ll be a bring and share lunch, please sign up using the sheet in church.

Team Evensong
Next Sunday we have the Team Evensong at Highweek (TQ12 1QD). Our very own Graham is leading the service so it would be wonderful if we could turn out to support him. 5:30pm

St. Luke’s Ladies Group
2pm this Wednesday, don’t miss out on this wonderful new group that meets at St. Luke’s. There’s always lots to talk about and do and it’s a great way to meet new people.

Birthday list
Don’t forget to add your month and date of birth (but not the year you were born!) to the new birthday list in St. Luke’s if you would like to receive a card each year. A big thank you to Cynthia for organising it and making such beautiful cards for us.

Summer Fete at St. Luke’s
I need a few volunteers to help organise our simplified summer get together on the 16th August. Please be in touch with Fr. Matthew.

Service Times
I am considering moving the service times to 9am and 11:15am to enable me to stay at St. John’s for a short time each week, but to also arrive at St. Luke’s with more than just five minutes to spare. I would like to hear your thoughts before we discuss it at our next PCC meetings. Please drop me an email or message or tell me during the week.
