News for Sunday 22nd September

Dearest friends,

Welcome to our new-look combined email and pew sheet sheet. You’ll immediately notice some differences – for a start, the front page of the printed pew sheet will now marry the information in the email- and you’ll also notice that it’s the same email AND pew sheet for both St. Luke’s and St. John’s.

I think this is a wonderful opportunity to share in the ministry of Jesus across our parishes, and I pray you’ll find it helpful.

If you have any questions or feedback about it, please do come and see me.

Fr. Matthew

Harvest Festivals
The T.H.A.T foodbank wishes to thank both the parishes for the amazing donations of food over the last couple of weeks. They were overjoyed by the abundance of generosity shown.

New Services at St. John’s
Last Sunday was an amazing day of new services at St. John’s. The BCP Mass at 9:15am was well attended and quite beautiful. The 11am Family Mass was utterly joyful and welcoming – a Eucharist full of love and welcome. Finally, our new monthly Evening Prayer really topped off a terrific day. Thank you to all who made it such a huge success.

Cream Tea
Angela is going to run her hugely successful Cream Team on Sunday 22nd September at St. Luke’s. These are always great occasions. Home made scones, good friends, jam and cream applied in whatever way you feel is best! Please do let Angela or Fr. Matthew know if you are coming, there’ll be a sign up sheet in St. Luke’s – St. John’s folk please let Fr. Matthew know or sign up on the new website.

5th Sunday Service
(29th September)
As we move to a new pattern between St. Luke’s and St. John’s our firstjoint 5th Sunday service will be at St. Luke’s. We’ll start at 11am and there will be fellowship afterwards, we’re not sure what that will look like at the moment (the church hall is in bits as we refurbish it for a new nursery) – but whatever form – it’ll be fun!

Holy Habits
In this pre-Advent course we explore Holy Habits, what causes them to stick and what prompts us to engage with Jesus more deeply each day. We will explore the little things that we do with our bodies, our minds and our spirits that draw us closer to God. The course will run at 7pm at St. Luke’s church in the four Thursdays running up to the 1st Sunday of Advent starting on the 7th November.

The Rev’d Dr. Chris Moore
On the 1st December we’ll be joined by the Rev’d Dr. Chris Moore for an afternoon lecture on the Gospel of Mark. But this is no ordinary talk. Rev’d Chris will walk us through the gospel using the geography, climate, economy, the everyday life of the ordinary Jew, and what is was really like to live under Roman occupation, to open up Jesus’ message of hope and love in a new and intriguing way. It’s the perfect way to start Advent, sign up on the website now..

You can sign up for the Cream Tea, Holy Habits and Rev’d Chris Moore’s talk on our new website at www.slsj.co.uk
